Evangelists bring the Word of God to millions of helpless people.
When you see someone speaking about the Word of God on the streets of Sri Lanka and other countries, you should know that they are not just a mere distributor of flyers or newspapers. They are someone who has already gone through the same problems you may be facing—or even worse, in many cases.
They are volunteers from Universal’s Evangelization Group, known by the acronym EVG. They are people like you, who work, study, fight to provide for themselves, and take care of their family, health, and finances. Yet, they still set aside time to offer others the greatest opportunity of their lives: the knowledge of the Word of God.
It can be said that Universal’s evangelization group began with the church itself over 40 years ago, when Bishop Edir Macedo preached at a gazebo in a public square in Rio de Janeiro, and the first believers began to build a glorious history alongside him.
The group features a project known as Night Angels, a powerful social outreach to the homeless. More than just providing food, clothing, supplies, and personal hygiene tips, these “angels” bring the certainty that there is a way out for those who “live” on the streets and are often marginalized.
What does it mean to be an Evangelist?
It is a group formed voluntarily by members of the Universal Church. To evangelize is a commandment left by the Lord Jesus Himself (“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature,” Mark 16:15). Therefore, those who evangelize obey God.
