Providing More Than a Meal: UCKG HelpCentre Soup Kitchens
At the UCKG HelpCentre, our soup kitchens aim to offer far more than just a hot meal. With volunteers always on hand to share a kind word or a warm smile, we strive to create a welcoming, supportive, and compassionate environment for all who attend.
The food security situation in Sri Lanka has shown signs of gradual improvement since the peak of the economic crisis in 2022, but the number of people facing difficulties in accessing food is still considerable.
Based on recent data (2024–2025) from organizations such as the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Bank, here is the current estimate:
Moderate Food Insecurity – About 16% of households (approximately 3.5 million people) are classified as moderately food insecure. This means they have limited access to nutritious food or need to reduce the quality/quantity of their meals.
Through the introduction of Soup Kitchen Connect, we are broadening the support we offer—providing not only hot meals but also access to advice and assistance in areas such as housing, debt, and financial support. This initiative aims to transform our soup kitchens into holistic community support hubs, addressing both immediate needs and longer-term challenges.
If you or someone you know could benefit from this service, we warmly invite you to visit any of our locations. Everyone is received with dignity and open arms.
